Jesus Susunaga Acosta

Maestro Tequilero, Casa San Nicolás

Jesus Susunaga Acosta is the successor of Cirilo Oropeza, the master who dedicated a lifetime to a great tequila that everyone could enjoy. Jesus takes up the legacy of the great master and carries on his dream. Jesus initially studies biochemical engineering and graduates with the intention of pursuing a career in genetic research, but his interest in science leads him down a different path, west of Veracruz, to Jalacus, the heartland for tequila. When he discovers the spirits industry, he quickly realizes that he could apply his biochemical expertise to fermentation, distillation and maturation.

Jesus’ studies focused on many categories of spirits: from Cognac in France to vermouth at historic distilleries in Scotland, the Caribbean and England. But one thing remains: tequila is always been his first love.

He comes to Casa San Nicolás as the new Maestro Tequilero with great passion and determination, where he helps oversee the entire Casa San Nicolás product line, helping to maintain the highest quality standards of current award-winning Mexican spirits such as Espolón and Cabo Wabo, as well as future innovations at the Arandas plant in Jalisco, Mexico.
