Maison La Mauny

MMartinique is a spot painted green on a board painted blue.

A land with a deep, impalpable beauty. An encounter of different cultures that unite as the creole culture. Getting to know Martinique means regretting not having found it earlier.

On the sidelines of that beauty, in
1749
a life-changing encounter occurred.

A deep red sun diving into the sea had set the sky ablaze. Ferdinand Poulain, Count of La Mauny, a nobleman from Brittany, had just landed on the sweet shores of Martinique.

A light breeze was swirling in the air, which bore a scent of sugar along the way to Rivière Pilote, where the daughter of the owner of a plantation in the heart of the island was walking, illuminated by the scarlet light of the setting sun which was about to give way to a growing veil of darkness.

On that evening, the powerful thunder of the heart fell from the sky, striking two gentle souls.

A storm of love that ended up resonating across the island and thriving for years, decades, and centuries to come,

among the halls of
Maison
La Mauny

the rum distillery that stemmed from that first gaze between Ferdinand Poulain and the young woman.

Since then, its roots in Martinique have defined the unmistakable terroir of the distillate and marked its distinctive tradition of gestures and taste: the harvest of the sugarcanes every February and the unique microclimate at the heart of a warm, humid and emerald-green valley. The tropical air plays a fundamental role in the ageing of the rum, speeding it up by around three times when compared with spirit aged in cooler, more temperate climes.

And then, the proud labour of an entire local community, which supports and protects itself and celebrates the colours of the brand: yellow and red are reminiscent

of the colours of the
tête marêe

a traditional foulard tied on the head, an ancient creole tradition.

But red is also the colour of the land on which La Mauny plantations grow. And yellow is the colour of a strong land that lives by the warmth of the relationships and the intense light of a generous and powerful sun.

All of this has a name: La Mauny which, in 1996, received a unique quality recognition in the rum category, the appellation d’origine controlée.

A rum made with love.
A love that has lasted 270 years.
A love born on the island,
and of an innate love for the island.
